Number of hand bound US Constitutions given away (since 2016): 1,955

Stack of 4×5″ US Constitutions ready to be dropped off around the city!

It’s March 2026 and I’ve been stocking a little dispenser with US Constitutions. Someone polices this pole and is quick to tear it down—sometimes within hours. My aim was to make these out of relatively delicate materials to emphasize the point that these are *just* words on a page and that *we* are the real power behind them. So, I’ve made multiple dispensers over the past few weeks…all of them out of paperboard. The next one will be made of wood, and I’m disappointed that the idea of people protecting the US Constitution has been sacrificed for resistance to vandalism.
Back in 2016, I was alarmed by the lack of guardrails in discussions about politics. In an attempt to do **something**, I started binding copies of the US Constitution and giving them away. I gave them out at rallies and left them in coffee shops, restaurants, post offices, and just about wherever I went.
Since then, I’ve come to think we need to educate people about what the constitution is and what it does. Although it’s a short document, it has some legalese and can be difficult to understand. Consequently, simply picking up a copy now isn’t going to fix anything. We need to show people how its various parts shape our world. I don’t think I’m the right person for that job, so if you’re a teacher or really good at explaining things, this is **your** call to action.
For more about how each free US Constitution is made, click here (blog page). The summary is it takes 18 to 20 minutes to make each one. They are printed at home, stitched together, and covered by me. They cost about $1.05 each in materials, plus the 18 to 20 minutes of labor I put into them. If you’d like a batch of 10 to give out to your local community, I offer them for $11 + $5 shipping anywhere within the US (10 pack/US Constitutions). Each one is numbered in the order they’re completed.
